THUNDER BAY -- Lakehead University's Board of Governors will vote today on a tuition hike and the University’s student union is pleading for any increase to be tied to inflation.
Lakehead University Student Union vice-president of operations Dan Bacsa says for nine years fees have been raised above the rate of inflation, making education difficult to afford.
“I think that we understand that the University is already struggling for funding,” Bacsa said during an interview with CKPR Radio.
“So they cannot reduce their prices or the cost of education, but by indexing it to (rate of inflation) they are doing the right thing so students don’t have to pay more to access education.”
Students plan to hold a rally prior to today’s vote by the university’s board of governors.
