A regional Inclusion Institute will be held in Thunder in late June.
Embracing Inclusion, put on by the Ontario Network Skills Training Projects and the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants, the goal of the two-day event is provide resources to local non-profit human-service organizations to help them advance policies and practices in governance, leadership development and human resource and volunteer management.
Additionally each participating organization is expected to adopt strategic commitments to improve inclusionary practices and adopt at least one concrete initiative along those lines.
“The most effective and responsive nonprofits, in their people, policies and practices, seek to reflect and include the full spectrum of all populations whose mission it is to serve,” reads a pamphlet produced by event organizers and sent out on Wednesday by the Lakehead Social Planning Council.
“Beyond anti-discrimination efforts, inclusion fully values the worth and contribution all persons and groups can make and actively creates ways for them to participate actively.”
Ongoing support will be made available to organizations that take part, including follow-up webinars, and customized coaching to help flesh out action plans.
