Two dead after Highway 17 crash

Officials with the Kenora detachment of the OPP say officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 17 near Little Joe Lake, located 50 kilometres east of Kenora, shortly after 7 p.m. On Monday, Nov. 12.

Police say a 2003 Buick CCV was being driven west on the highway when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to cross into the path of a Dodge Caravan beings driven eastbound.

The driver of the Buick, John Marshalok, 75, and his passenger, Irene Marshalok, 71, were killed as a result of the crash. Both victims were residents of Kenora.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the Lake of the Woods District hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released.

Highway 17 was closed during the police investigation into the crash.

The highway has since been fully opened to traffic.
