THUNDER BAY – The city’s at-large race has its first official candidates.

Kim Ducharme and Chris Krumpholtz on Monday filed their nomination papers. Both are first-timers in the municipal election stage.  A total of 19 at-large candidates ran four years ago.

Wesley Ramage, who finished a strong second to incumbent Trevor Giertuga in McIntyre Ward in 2014, has also decided to throw his hat back in the ring in 2018. Giertuga has hinted he plans to run at large this time around, giving up the ward seat he’s held since 2000.

He wasn’t the only ward candidate to file on Monday, Day 6 of the nomination period.

Ashley Nurmela, who last week earned the endorsement of departing Coun. Paul Pugh, signed up to contest the McKellar Ward, joining entrepreneur Brian Hamilton in the race.

East of Thunder Bay, Shuniah Mayor Wendy Landry also filed to run again, seeking a second term at the community’s helm.
