Two suspects are in custody and police continue to look for a third following an attempted robbery and pursuit along Highway 11/17.
The incident began just before 4 a.m. following a report of an attempted break-and-enter at a Shuniah Township store.
Officers with the Nipigon detachment of the OPP managed to spot a suspect vehicle a short while later, headed east on 11/17. But a pursuit was called off for safety reasons.
The vehicle was finally brought to a halt when officers deployed a spike belt just outside of Schreiber.
The three occupants fled into a nearby bush, but two of them were apprehended several hours later.
The OPP emergency response team and a K-9 unit continue to look for the third person.
Motorists in the Schreiber area are being advised to avoid picking up hitchhikers.
