THUNDER BAY — Shuniah volunteer firefighters extricated the driver of a tractor-trailer unit from the wreckage of his cab after a collision Wednesday morning on Highway 11/17 east of Thunder Bay.

Ontario Provincial Police say the truck was eastbound when it left the roadway and ended up on its side in the ditch by the westbound lane.

The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries but was taken by paramedics to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further assessment.

A second collision occurred on Highway 11/17 at Balsam St.

Shortly after that incident, another collision occurred on Highway 11/17 at the Balsam Street intersection in Thunder Bay.

OPP say an eastbound commercial motor vehicle and an SUV collided at about 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver of the SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for assessment.

The other driver suffered minor injuries and was released after assessment by paramedics.

Police continue their investigations into both collisions.
