Two remain in hospital in serious condition after crash

Police allege driver of one vehicle involved in the collision failed to stop at a stop sign while entering Highway 11/17 on Friday afternoon.

SHUNIAH -- Two people remain in hospital battling serious injuries after a two-car collision on Friday afternoon on Highway 11/17. 

Ontario Provincial Police say a motorist was traveling on McKenzie Station Road at about 3 p.m. on Friday and failed to stop at a stop sign, colliding with an eastbound vehicle on the highway. 

Four occupants of the first vehicle were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The three occupants of the eastbound vehicle were also taken to hospital for treatment, two of them with serious injuries. 

Police, who were assisted by Shuniah Fire and Emergency Service and Superior North EMS, say traffic was rerouted along Lakeshore Drive as the collision was investigation. 

No charges have yet been announced.
