(KENORA, ON) – Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the Northwest Region Crime Unit have charged two youths following a fire in the Muriel Lake Road area.
On Sunday July 19, 2015 at approximately 9:00pm Kenora OPP were notified that two male youths were at large from a youth facility north of Kenora. Kenora Detachment members, assisted by the OPP K9 unit and members of the Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) conducted a search of the area but the youths were not located.
On Monday July 20, 2015 at approximately 3:00pm, police were called to a report of a fire in the Muriel Lake area. Police and Fire attended but the seasonal residence was engulfed in flames and completely destroyed.
The police investigation revealed that the two youths from the youth facility were responsible for the fire. As a result of the investigation two seventeen year old males have been charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code:
• Break, Enter and Commit an Indictable Offence contrary to section 348(1)(b)
• Escape Lawful Custody contrary to section 145(1)(a)
• Arson contrary to section 434
The two accused have been held in custody pending a bail hearing on July 22, 2015.
