Two youths arrested after violent robberies in Chapples Park

THUNDER BAY — Thunder Bay Police have charged two youths in connection with a pair of robberies in Chapples Park this week.

Both incidents occurred Monday evening.

Officers were sent to the park just before 9:15 p.m. after reports that two individuals had been threatened at knifepoint.

They learned that the victims had been walking their dog through the golf course.

While on a footbridge, two males approached, made threats and demanded cash.

Both victims fled the scene but were briefly pursued by one of the youths.

At the same time, police learned another person had reported being threatened by two youths in the same area and in the same manner.

Officers located the suspects soon after near the Chapples Park soccer fields.

They were found to be in possession of a knife and coyote spray.

A 14-year-old is charged with two counts of robbery and carrying a concealed prohibited device or ammunition.

A 15-year-old is charged with two counts of robbery and possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes. 

Both accused appeared in bail court on Tuesday and were given future appearance dates.

Under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the pair cannot be publicly identified.
