Firefighters were able to bring a small house fire under control before it did any major damage.

Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue responded to a call about a house fire on Mayflower Drive just before 8 p.m. on Monday. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control within a couple of minutes. About four pumpers arrived at the home but firefighters didn’t require all of them to put out the fire.

Marissa Mancuso, who lives in the neighbourhood, heard the sirens and rode her bicycle to find out what had happened. When she arrived, she said she saw some smoke coming from the house.

District chief Jon Swaggert said the fire was located at the back of the house and the damage wasn’t severe.

“Initially there was someone in the house but they evacuated with no problems,” Swaggert said. “The neighbours alerted them.”

He said they aren’t sure what caused the fire but they will look into it.
