The United Way kicked off its campaign for this year's Great Billboard Rescue Friday.
The 19th annual event has a minimum of 35 teams of four, participating in a one-day blitz to raise money for the United Way.
The teams are put on a scissor-lift high in the air and then call for pledges to raise money for the 27 agencies the United Way supports. To date, the event has raised over $1.3 million.
This year's goal is $100,000. Chair Shawn Christie said last year they exceeded the goal by $30,000. He's confident the same will happen this year. Christie said the Great Billboard Rescue is one of the United Way’s largest events in Thunder Bay.
Teams looking to sign up for the Billboard Rescue can register through the United Way.
The one-day event will take place May 19 in the Investors Group parking lot.
