At about 7 p.m. last evening (25 February 26, 2016) police, Fire Services and EMS responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Harbor Expressway and Golf Links Rd.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged. The first officer on scene was on route to another call and was very close by when the call came in. Upon arrival this officer saw that one of the vehicles was on fire and used the fire extinguisher from the Forensics truck to begin to control the flames until Fire services arrived.

Traffic was disrupted for about an hour.

Investigation showed that a black Dodge Neon driven by a 50 year old Thunder Bay man made a left turn on a red light directly into the path of a blue Volkswagen Jetta approaching at 70 km/hr. The female driver of the Volkswagen and her female passenger both received only minor injury. The male driver was also the recipient of minor injury.

The male driver has been charged with being an unlicensed driver, disobeying a red (turn) light, and for making an unsafe left turn.
