A dramatic collision in the intersection of High and Inchequin Streets at about 10:30 a.m. this morning sent both drivers to T.B.R.H.S.C. by ambulance. Neither suffered life-threatening injuries.
Traffic was closed off at that location for about two hours while officers investigated and firefighters pryed on doors.
A 77 year old male driver was eastbound on Inchequin Street in a red Nissan Versa. A 45 year old female driver of a silver G.M.C. pick-up truck was northbound on South High Street with the right of way. The male driver of the Nissan failed to yield to the pick-up truck after stopping for the stop sign, and has since been charged with the stop sign violation.
The male driver had to be extricated from his vehicle by Fire Services. A puppy in the pick-up truck got thrown about in the cab, but was fine by all appearances. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, which certainly helped to minimize the injuries.
Seatbelts save lives.
