(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Monday, January 18, 2016 at approximately 12:39 pm, Officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 11/17 and John Street. Thunder Bay Fire Department and Superior North EMS also attended the scene.

A tractor trailer unit (chip hauler) was south bound on Highway 11/17 when the driver approached the intersection of Highway 11/17 and John Street and drove through a red traffic light. 

The driver of the tractor trailer collided with the driver of a Nissan Sentra that was crossing the intersection on John Street.

The driver of the Nissan was transported to hospital by ambulance with non life threatening injuries. The Nissan vehicle sustained extensive damage.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured and that vehicle sustained minimal damage.

A 22 year old male driver from Thunder Bay was charged with Red Light - Fail To Stop contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
