Update: Home destroyed after north-side fire

A dog was saved following a north-side house fire, but reports indicate two puppies were lost in the blaze. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue firefighters responded to reports of a house fire on Fitzgerald Street near Cumberland Street shortly at 1:54 p.m.

A dog was saved  following a north-side house fire, but reports indicate two puppies were lost in the blaze.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue firefighters responded to reports of a house fire on Fitzgerald Street near Cumberland Street shortly at 1:54 p.m.

The first arriving unit found smoke and flames coming from several openings upon arrival. A defensive attack was taken as firefighters set up in the front and rear of the home.

The home sustained heavy damage and is being inspected by Thunder Bay inspection.

No other  injuries have been reported as a result of this blaze.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
