UPDATE: Police arrest 20-year-old murder suspect

Brianna Netemegesic, 20, has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault in the city's third homicide of 2020.

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police have charged a 20-year-old woman with second-degree murder in the city’s third homicide of 2020.

According to court documents, Brianna Netemegesic was arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday following the incident, which left one woman dead and another injured. The second victim remains in hospital receiving treatment for what police are calling serious injuries.

Police said they arrived at the scene just after midnight on Tuesday where they found two female victims outside near the street. Det. Insp. John Fennell with the Thunder Bay Police Service said the victim and the accused were known to each other.

A trail of green evidence cones could be spotted lining the snow-covered street on Tuesday morning, laid by a police forensics team investigating the incident.

Fennell said the scene is rather large and will be held by police until a post-mortem examination is completed in Toronto.

"A lot of the activity took place outside of a residence," he said. "People ran, so there is evidence in that general location."

Police are asking residents in the area who notice any potential evidence on their property to not touch the item in question and to contact them immediately.

"There could be evidence on those items and we want to make sure that is protected," Fennell said.

Fennell added the investigation is in its early stages and witnesses are still being interviewed and while there are no other suspects at this time that could change as the investigation unfolds.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact Thunder Bay Police Service at 684-1200.
