THUNDER BAY - Police have arrested multiple suspects after a south-side manhunt earlier Saturday.

The OPP tweeted around 1:30 p.m. the last remaining suspect following a car chase and ensuing pursuit had been apprehended.

Provincial and city police officers had been seeking three individuals, two men and one woman, who were occupants in a vehicle that was involved in a chase by OPP officers around 9 a.m. before it was abandoned at the north side of the James Street swing bridge, with the occupants fleeing on foot into the wooded area surrounding the bridge.

A source at the scene said two of the people involved were arrested before noon, with the OPP K-9 unit locating one individual and another arrested by the Thunder Bay Police Service.

City police confirmed their Emergency Task Unit arrested a 36-year-old man shortly after 1 p.m. on the property of Coastal Steel, which is located on James Street just south of the bridge.

The public was warned the remaining suspect was possibly armed with a firearm but no weapons were found at the time of arrest. He was said to be wearing a black jacket and jeans, has shaggy black hair, a medium build and brown eyes and believed to be in the Fort William First Nation area.

Thunder Bay police said the man was wanted on outstanding warrants.

OPP tactical officers, clad in camouflage and green face paint, gathered on the Fort William First Nation side a short distance east of the bridge.

The bridge was closed to pedestrian traffic all morning as the search was ongoing.

OPP officers and their K-9 unit remained on scene in search of a weapon but that was reportedly unsuccessful.
