THUNDER BAY - A trend back upwards in COVID-19 cases continued for northwestern Ontario Sunday, following a slowdown in cases through the second half of May. The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced its second confirmed case in as many days Sunday afternoon.

The case involves a Thunder Bay-area man in his 30s, who is now in hospital. The health unit has not yet determined a cause of transmission.

It's the fourth new case reported in the district since May 31, following a ten-day gap. The Northwestern Health Unit also reported three new cases in the Kenora area Sunday.

It's the 85th total case of COVID-19 in the Thunder Bay district. Only four of those cases remain active as of Sunday morning, with two hospitalized.
