A man from Red Lake, Minn. was fined $1,400 for having seven walleye over the legal limit. He was also fined an additional $800 for having four walleye over the limit on a separate day.

Another man from Bemidji, Minn. was fined $1,000 for fishing without a licence and having four walleye in his possession.

Both men were then fined another $500 for importing live minnow into Ontario for bait.

The court heard on March 10, that the two men were checked by a Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officer while fishing in the Mica Point area on Lake of the Woods.

Before checking the men, the conservation officer watched the pair catch several walleye. One of the men charged would then hide the fish in a partially drilled ice fishing hole nearby.
