A Justice of the Peace has fined two men from Alabama a total of $5600 for fishing violations that occurred during a trip to northwestern Ontario.

They pleaded guilty in a Dryden court last week to possession of more than the legal limit of walleye, and for cutting fish in a way that they could not be easily counted and identified.

Court was told that charges were laid after the pair was stopped by a Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officer for an inspection on Highway 516 in the Sioux Lookout area last September.

The men had 18 walleye in their possession—12 over the limit allowed by their licences—and the fish had been cut into numerous small pieces.
