Vehicle fire temporarily shut down Mackenzie Station Road on Monday

SHUNIAH — No injuries were reported following a vehicle fire that temporarily closed Mackenzie Station Road in both directions for approximately an hour and a half on Monday, starting around 5:30 p.m.

The incident occurred near Shuniah Fire and Emergency's volunteer fire station No. 1, which allowed local emergency crews to respond quickly.

During the incident, motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes to reduce congestion and allow emergency personnel to operate smoothly.

Firefighters arrived promptly and managed to contain the flames within an hour, minimizing damage to the vehicle and preventing any risk to nearby structures.

Shuniah fire officials credited their swift response with ensuring safety in the area. Once the fire was extinguished, crews worked diligently to secure the site for both motorists and pedestrians, conducting a thorough assessment before reopening the road.

Fire officials were unable to determine the cause, and it is not expected to be identified.
