THUNDER BAY – Police are on the hunt for a driver who fled after striking a female pedestrian late on Wednesday night.

In a release issued on Thursday, city police say the incident took place at about 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of John Street and Memorial Avenue. The pedestrian was walking southbound on Memorial Avenue and crossing over John Street, with the right-of-way, when she was struck by a black, four-door sedan travelling east-bound on John Street.

While attempting to squeeze between the pedestrian and the curb to make a right turn, two males in the vehicle were reportedly shouting at the woman. The vehicle struck the woman and knocked her to the ground, failing to stop while continuing southbound on Memorial Avenue.

The pedestrian suffered minor physical injuries.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and is asking anyone who might have been in the area at the time or has information regarding the identity of the vehicle or the driver, to contact them at 684-1200.
