Vehicle/moose collision sends two people to hospital

MARATHON, Ont. —Ontario Provincial Police are advising motorists to watch out for animals coming onto the road.

The caution follows recent collisions on Highways 17 and 614 in the Marathon and Manitouwadge areas.

Two incidents were investigated late Monday evening.

A luxury car with two occupants collided with a moose about 20 kilometres west of Marathon, resulting in both individuals being taken to hospital.

OPP described their injuries as minor, but said their vehicle sustained major damage.

The other incident occurred 30 kilometres south of Manitouwadge on Highway 614.

A 2018 model pickup truck collided with a moose, but the two occupants of the vehicle escaped injury.

According to a new release issued Wednesday morning, patrolling officers are reporting seeing "lots of moose" wandering onto area roadways over the past couple of weeks.

Black bears have also been observed on highways.
