THUNDER BAY — Police arrested a suspect after a pair of break-ins and thefts were reported from two separate businesses.
City police received a report of a break-and-enter at a business on Carrick Street on Aug. 15.
Police believe the suspect entered the business compound and proceeded to steal a pickup truck, an attached trailer, and a personal watercraft that was located inside the trailer.
It's alleged the suspect drove the truck through the gates to exit the compound as the vehicle was found heavily damaged later that day.
Both the trailer and watercraft were also located.
Officers received another report of a break-and-enter at another business on Russell Street overnight on Aug. 23.
Officers believe the suspect broke into the business compound and an office, stealing a pickup truck and other equipment. The suspect damaged the gate to escape, according to Thunder Bay Police.
Police investigated and believe the same individual was responsible for both incidents.
Officers located an individual matching the suspect’s description, along with the suspected stolen vehicle, on the afternoon of Aug. 23.
The suspect, a 42-year-old man from Iroquois Falls, was arrested and taken into custody.
He is facing several charges, including two counts of break-and-enter, mischief, a single count of theft over $5,000, procession of property obtained by crime, resisting arrest and three charges of theft of motor vehicle.
The accused appeared in court over the weekend and has been remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
