OPP News Release
(MARATHON ON.) –On Tuesday June 16, 2015 approximately 05:30am, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marathon detachment were advised of a motor vehicle collision involving two motor vehicles on Highway 17 near the Black River Bridge approximately 15 km east of Marathon ON.
A westbound motor vehicle, a Pontiac Sun Fire, crossed the center line colliding with an eastbound motor vehicle, a Ford Escape.
Two males were pronounced dead at the scene. EMS attended and transported 3 other occupants involved in the collision to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The deceased males have been identified as 18 year old Nicolas LESSARD of Quebec, QC and 19 year old Pierre Alexandre NADEAU of Thetford Mines, QC
The highway was closed for 8 hours while OPP Technical Collision Investigators attended. Highway was then open to 1 lane of traffic while emergency crews and tow trucks removed the vehicles from the scene.
