THUNDER BAY — Now that a new traffic study has been completed on Victoria Avenue at Lillie Street and at Ford Street, the city will reactivate the signal lights that it turned off in late February.
The lights at the Lillie Street intersection were deactivated while the Engineering Division took a closer look at traffic control requirements, after it initially proposed removing the lights and installing a roundabout at Victoria and Ford.
Starting Thursday, April 4, the signals will be set to a flashing red light for a few days to allow drivers to adjust to the reactivation.
The lights will resume normal operation on Monday, April 8.
Project Engineer Matthew Miedema said the updated data, including information about traffic volumes, collisions, speeds, delays and congestion will be used to prepare a report for city council in May.
Previous studies had shown that traffic signals were no longer warranted at Victoria and Lillie, but were required to reduce delays for Thunder Bay Transit buses and for vehicles turning east from Lillie onto Victoria.
