Vigil held for man who died after being found unresponsive on pathway

Man was found unconscious on pathway near Bruce Street and pronounced dead at hospital.

THUNDER BAY -- Loved ones gathered to remember the 22-year-old man found unresponsive on a north side path over the weekend.

About 30 people were at the Monday afternoon vigil for the man, who was pronounced dead in hospital after being found unconscious on a trail near Bruce Street on Saturday.

Those in attendance were emotional, with several hugging each other while in tears. The man's mother left the scene holding flowers.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to a 911 call at about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, where they found the man who was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre where he was pronounced dead.

Police investigators continue their probe, which is currently classified as a sudden death investigation. An autopsy is expected to be completed in Toronto later this week.

The identity of the deceased has not been publicly released.

The scene had been held throughout the weekend but it has since been released.
