THUNDER BAY -- A memorial vigil is set for Thursday evening to honour Larissa Charlie-Stillaway one month after her death.
Charlie-Stillaway died following an apparent vicious assault at the Totem Trailer Court on Chippewa Road in June. Her accused attacker originally faced charges of aggravated assault, but those charges were changed to second-degree murder following the woman’s death.
Ontario Native Women's Association Spokesperson Mary-Anne Matthews says the goal of Thursday’s vigil is to bring attention to violence against women and how to stop it.
“Everyone is welcome,” Matthews said during an interview with CKPR Radio. “They can come and participate in the ceremonies, and just show their support and get behind this issue.
The vigil begins at 6 p.m. at the ONWA office on Ray Boulevard.
