THUNDER BAY -- City Coun. Joe Virdiramo says making sure those who are locked up are treated in a fair and decent way should be a priority.
That's why Virdiramo has joined those calling for replacement of the century-old Thunder Bay District Jail.
The councillor, who is also chair of city's Police Services Board, is scheduled to take part in a tour of the facility on Feb. 4 being hosted by the jail Superintendent.
But he says its already well known that conditions at the jail are deplorable for both inmates and staff and that action must be taken.
Virdiramo says things like overcrowding and a lack of 21st century amenities mean the Jail is well below acceptable standards.
