More Superior North voters participated in Monday’s federal election than in 2008, but the riding’s overall voter turnout was still below the nation’s average.
Bill Everitt, Elections Canada returning officer for Thunder Bay-Superior North, said about 36,700 ballots were cast in Monday’s federal election.
That’s about 1,000 more than in the 2008 election. With just more than 60 per cent of eligible voters showing up to the polls in Thunder Bay-Superior North, that’s slightly less than the 61.4 per cent national average.
Thunder Bay-Rainy River totals were not immediately available.
The national turnout in 2008’s federal election was 58.8 per cent, the lowest participation rate in Canada’s history.
