THUNDER BAY — Residents of the Thunder Bay region are enjoying a warm summer so far, and there appears to be more in store in August.

Environment Canada reported Tuesday that July 2018 was warmer than normal, with an average daily high temperature of 25.7 C.

The month's historic average daily high for Thunder Bay is 24.2 C.

Meteorologist Gerald Chang said the early outlook for August is also promising.

"If we take a look at the trends, especially over the next two weeks, it seems that we are going to come out slightly above seasonal in terms of temperatures around the area," Chang told Tbnewswatch.

That's despite the fact that August will start off with a cool day.

Wednesday's maximum temperature is forecast at only 16 C, but temperatures will climb steadily in the ensuing days.

Chang added that, so far, this summer has been drier than usual.

As of Tuesday morning, Environment Canada had recorded just under 71 millimetres of rain in Thunder Bay, compared with the historic average July rainfall of about 90 millimetres.
