Warm temperatures and rain in the forecast

THUNDER BAY - With rising temperatures and rain in the forcast, the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority has issued a Flood Outlook Statement.

The statement encompasses the city of Thunder Bay, municipalities of Neebing, Oliver Paipoonge, Shuniah, and the townships of O’Connor, Conmee, Gillies, and Dorion.

Temperatures are expected to rise to 7 C on Wednesday and between 20 and 35 millimeters of precipitation is forecasted Tuesday through Thursday.

Heavy precipitation coupled with snowmelt could result in localized ponding in low-lying areas.

Temperatures are expected to return to below freezing on Friday and Saturday, with light snow forecasted on Friday and Sunday.   

This year, the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority recorded snow depths between 60 and 80 centimetres of total snowfall accumulation around the city, which is 52 per cent greater than the long-term-average depth.
