THUNDER BAY — Rainy, cool, and even a little chilly. Those are some descriptors of what the weather has been like the past week, daresay it even being a bit too close to fall-type weather.
The middle portion of July has not brought in the typical, dog days of summer of hot weather/
Environment Canada senior climatologist David Phillips says this is a time to patient.
Phillips said that according to 30-year data, those days are still to come. Hot summer days are typically felt the last week of July. He noted that this summer has been a good time to save on air conditioning costs.
Even the rain has been lacking this summer.
"Precipitation for May, June, and so far in July is way down," Phillips said, adding it's about half of what would normally would be expected.
Phillips is certain that more warmth is on the way.
"My sense is that you still have the warmest part of the summer still ahead of you, and our models are showing August to be warmer than normal, particularly in Northwestern Ontario and drier," Phillips said.
"[The warm weather], it's coming. You'll probably be complaining about the heat and humidity as we get into August."
The weekend forecast is predicting temperatures in the mid 20's, with small areas of precipitation.
