Water pipe break causes extensive damage to long-term care home

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews were on the scene at Pinewood Court after a water pipe break forced the evacuation of the east wing.

THUNDER BAY - Residents at a south side long-term care home were forced out of their rooms after a water pipe broke and caused extensive damage.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews were called to Pinewood Court Long-Term Care Home on Walsh Street shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon after reports of a water pipe break on the second floor of the east wing.

The break caused extensive damage to the second floor and more than 65 residents needed to be relocated to another wing of the building.

There is no word yet on what caused the break or how long it will take to repair the floor.

Officials with Pinewood Court could not be reached for comment.
