Pilings for the proposed waterfront hotel at Thunder Bay's Prince Arthur's Landing have been in the ground for several years.

THUNDER BAY -- After years of delays it appears a controversial waterfront hotel may finally be completed.

City officials on Wednesday announced the municipality has issued a building permit for the structural steel for the Marriott-Delta hotel already partially built at Prince Arthur’s Landing.

“Construction of the waterfront hotel is one step closer,” said Mark Smith, general manager, development and emergency services in a release issued by the city.

“We will be very pleased to see the hotel development get back underway, with completion planned for the end of next year.”

The release says the city has been in discussion with the developer, the ReSolve Group Inc. about plans for the hotel, whose brand changed from Delta to Marriott.

The spokesperson says all required documents from the developer have been submitted and approved by the building services division.
