THUNDER BAY — A man remains in custody following a weapons incident in a southside Thunder Bay neighbourhood.

Police said the incident occurred Tuesday in the 200 block of Cumming Street, where a female was allegedly struck by a person brandishing a handgun.

Responding officers found both individuals had left the scene by the time they arrived, but police were able to locate the victim in the vicinity.

A short time later, they identified a suspect and seized what turned out to be a replica firearm.

The 25-year-old man is charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police said he also had an outstanding arrest warrant issued in connection with another matter.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
