THUNDER BAY – Residents across Northwestern Ontario should brace for inclement weather Sunday night and into Monday, Environment Canada has warned.
The agency issued weather warnings and statements covering a large portion of the Northwest Sunday afternoon, warning of possible flooding in Thunder Bay and freezing rain and snowfall further north and west.
In the Thunder Bay area, rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 millimetres were expected by Monday morning, which could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas, Environment Canada said in a weather statement issued around 4 p.m. Sunday.
Another 15 to 25 millimetres of rainfall is possible Monday, it said, while citing uncertainty over exact amounts expected.
Further north and west in the region, Environment Canada issued freezing rain warnings, with several hours of freezing rain expected overnight and into Monday, with icy conditions expected on roadways in areas including Armstrong, Dryden, Ignace, and Sioux Lookout.
Elsewhere, areas like Red Lake and Pikangikum were expected to receive 10 to 15 centimetres of snow overnight.
