Environment Canada released a special weather statement Tuesday morning for Thunder Bay, Dryden, Nestor Falls, Ignace, Fort Frances, Atikokan and Upsala. The regional weather statement predicts that a significant snowfall could hit the area starting Wednesday.

Environment Canada reports that a low pressure system developing in the western U.S. is expected to approach the Great Lakes region by Thursday and a large snowfall could hit the region as a result of that system.

The snowfall is expected to begin sometime Wednesday afternoon or evening, and could last into Thursday with more than 10 centimetres hitting the ground in some areas.

More information will be published when it becomes available.
