THUNDER BAY --- A special weather statement remains in effect for Thunder Bay on Thursday, with up to 40 millimetres of rain in the forecast for portions of the region and north of Lake Superior.
According to Environment Canada, between 25 and 40 millimetres of rain are expected, with localized flooding in low-lying areas a possibility.
The wet weather is expected to continue into Thursday evening.
Environment Canada says a slow-moving area of low pressure over the central United States is the cause of the extended period of rain, noting the frozen ground has reduced the ability to absorb the rainfall.
