What’s Poppin: Aug. 30, 31 and Sept. 1

Saturday

Thunder Bay’s Battle for Recovery will take place at the Superior Inn and Conference Centre from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will feature a lineup of speakers sharing their personal journeys and expertise. Tickets are $50, which includes a light breakfast and a catered lunch, with children attending free of charge. Tickets, sponsorships and community booth opportunities are available online.

DJ Rogue will perform at the Foundry at 10 p.m. Entry is $5 and the event is for individuals ages 19 and older.

Monday 

The Thunder Bay District Labour Council is holding its annual Labour Day Picnic in Current River Park near the southside of Hodder from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday. The event is free and has several food options available until 3 p.m. It will also feature music and family-friendly activities.

The Terry Fox 45th Anniversary Sleeping Giant Hike is being held at the Sleeping Giant Provincial Park, starting at 8 a.m. Judith and Fred Fox, Terry’s sister and brother, will lead the hike. It follows a sunrise ceremony held earlier in the morning.

All weekend

The Hymers Fall Fair will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 47 Hymers Fair Drive on Sunday and Monday. This year’s theme is 'Tailgates and Tractors.’ Admission to the fair is $10 for those aged 13 and older, $5 for those aged 60 and over or for children aged 6 to 12 and is free for children under six. Children can pay $1 with a zucchini or a sunflower. A $5 bus ride is also available for a round-trip per person, with a rate of $20 for a family of 5 or more. However, children must be 16 years old or younger.
