What’s Poppin: July 5 and July 6
Saturday
A No Gi Takedown Clinic will be held at the Mountainside Judo Club located in the Neebing Community Centre from 10 a.m. to noon. Rick Hawn, a USA national champion, Judo Olympian and mixed martial arts professional, will be running a training session in the clinic for all interested martial artists in Thunder Bay. Attendance is $30 each for teens and adults.
Veg Fest-Thunder Bay will be held at the Moose Hall, starting at 11 a.m. Visitors can indulge in a day filled with vegan and vegetarian food and drinks from local vendors, as well as register for a chance to win a gift card. Entry is free and it will continue until 5 p.m.
The Thunder Bay Border Cats will have a game at the Port Arthur Stadium at 6:35 p.m.
Wiggins Productions will present Pride After Dark: the Ultimate Pride After Party at the Black Pirates Pub. It will feature Mz. Molly Poppinz as the co-host, Lolita as a co-host, Amber Ail, Ivan Love, Fairy Contagious, Shaela Vie, Devin Devine, Olive Boogits, Seren Tonin, Inova Guy and Anton Chinoor. It will also have the return to the stage of J.J., the drag debut of Mia Ghen and go-go dancers Mister E. and Vix'en Vox. Doors open at 9 p.m. and the show starts at 10 p.m. The event is 19+ and a valid ID is required for entry. Tickets are available on Eventbrite — advance purchase is strongly recommended, as this event is expected to sell out.
The 2025 Pride Parade and Festival, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed.
Sunday
The Red Lion Smokehouse is hosting a Canada Day party. For the party, the restaurant and patios will open at noon. An annual Persian eating contest will be held at 3 p.m., followed by live music by Ted Hamill from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Music bingo will also kick off at 9 p.m. Those interested in signing up for the Persian eating contest can send an email or call (807) 286-0045.
Family Art Days will return to the Thunder Bay Art Gallery from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Thunder Bay Border Cats will have a game at the Port Arthur Stadium at 1:35 p.m.
All weekend
Oliver Paipoonge Heritage Park is hosting Classic Days from noon to 4:30 p.m. daily. Visitors can explore the pioneer village, hear live music at the Patterson Pavilion, shop local crafters and vintage vendors and see various attractions, including classic cars, model trains and antique tractors. Admission is only $5, with kids 12 and under free.
