THUNDER BAY -- Every five minutes, another person in Canada is diagnosed with dementia.

On Thursday night, Doctor Brian Goldman, radio host of CBC's White Coat, Black Art, joined local Alzheimer Society members as the keynote speaker at their 11th Annual Alzheimer Rendezvous.

Goldman's address examined the impact of an aging society on our health-care system.

He also has a personal interest in the disease as his mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 15 years ago.

His message to friends and family of those suffering -- stop focusing on the things they can't remember, and focus on what still makes them happy.

There are currently more than 3,200 people living with dementia in the city.

All proceeds from Thursday's fundraising event support the Alzheimer Society.
