Whitesand teen wins Lincoln Alexander Award

A teenager from a First Nation near Armstrong was honoured by Lieutenent Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell Thursday for his work in ending racial discrimination.

A teenager from a First Nation near Armstrong was honoured by Lieutenent Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell Thursday for his work in ending racial discrimination.

19-year-old Darian Baskatawang of Whitesand First Nation was one of three young people to receive the 2015 Lincoln M. Alexander Award. The Queen's University student is being recognized for his efforts to improve the quality of life for Aboriginal youth in Ontario through various initiatives.

The Lincoln Alexander Award is presented each year to three Ontarians between the ages of 16 to 25. It recognizes leadership in promoting positive social change.
