Another shipment of wind turbines headed to Dorion blew into the Thunder Bay harbour Thursday.
Crews began unloading the second of three shipments of turbines at Keefer Terminal off the BBC Orinoco. The windmills are headed to the Greenwich Wind Farm in Dorion.
Thunder Bay Port Authority harbour master Guy Jarvis said the cargo ship arrived with 15 windmills and the unloading will take about four days.
“At the same time, we’ll begin trucking some of the components to the Dorion site,” he said.
The offloading has gone smoothly, Jarvis added, noting the port authority has planned for this shipment for more than a year.
Transporting the pieces of the turbines will be in full swing next week and Jarvis asked for the public’s patience on the highways.
“All these loads will be escorted out by police and private escorts to Dorion,” he said. “If the weather was proper and we were looking at one complete windmill assembly per day, you’re looking at two-and-a-half months of straight trucking through the city and through the highway to Dorion.”
The first 15 turbines arrived in Thunder Bay on the May long weekend and the last 13 are expected to arrive in the port June 21.
