THUNDER BAY - It wasn’t a bad Friday for Karen Pleavin.

The lucky winner of the Carter Hutton Hockey Package Raffle will get to take a trip to St. Louis to meet and watch the Thunder Bay goaltender play for the Blues, a perennial playoff team in the NHL's Central Division.

The raffle sold close 3,000 tickets and raised approximately $15,000 to help fund equipment for the George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation.

“We had a different dynamic involved with Carter doing it, and it being a St. Louis trip,” foundation executive director Steve MacDonald said.

In years prior, Stanley Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist Patrick Sharp was the man behind the raffle.

Despite the change of NHL personality, MacDonald said the transition has been smooth.

“Carter has been wonderful to work with,” MacDonald said. “It’s going to be really great for him to connect with the winner.”

David Covello was also at the draw to help present the winner on behalf of the MNP.

“There’s so many great hockey players in this city - it’s definitely a hockey town and Carter has been a great ambassador for the city,” Covello said.

The raffle proceeds were part of the Hometown Heroes Children’s Charity Golf Classic which was hosted by Hutton on Thursday.

The event helped raise $92,630 additional dollars for George Jeffrey.
