NIPIGON, Ont. – Those travelling in the North Shore region Sunday should exercise caution due to snowfall that could fall heavily at times, warns Environment Canada.

The agency declared a winter weather travel advisory for the Nipigon-Rossport and Marathon-Schreiber areas Saturday afternoon, expecting it would be in effect from the morning through the evening on Sunday.

Travel along Highway 17 could be impacted between Wawa and Nipigon, Environment Canada said.

Total amounts of 5 to 10 centimetres of snow are expected in the region by Sunday evening, with local accumulations of up to 15 centimetres, particularly over higher terrain.

"Snow, at times heavy due to lake enhancement off of Lake Superior will result in poor road conditions and reduced visibilities," warned the travel advisory.
