Winter weather travel advisory issued for Thunder Bay

Up to 15 centimetres of snow is expected by Friday morning.

THUNDER BAY -- Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for Thunder Bay beginning Thursday morning.

The government weather agency said an Alberta Clipper will move across the region from west to east beginning Thursday.

Snow will be heavy at times with total snowfall amounts of seven to 15 centimetres is expected. The snowfall will begin Thursday and continue into Friday.

Snow will begin to taper off from west to east on Friday morning.

Strong northerly wind gusts of up to 60 kilometres an hour from early morning Friday, which could significantly reduce visibility in local blowing snow. Wind gusts are expected to die down by Friday evening.

Snowfall warnings may be needed in some areas at a later stage.
