THUNDER BAY -- In some ways, the Pow-wow Rangers are girlfriends getting together and doing silly things.
But it's also a show of strength and solidarity from women bonding on their way to recovery using humour as medicine. Crystal Morrison, Janine Desmoulin, Levina Wavey, Khanena Nowegejick, Kiaya Drake and Niki Jean Henry bonded through a healing circle and became friends over coffee.
It's also where they developed their group, the Pow-wow Rangers. Desmoulin said the group wants to show that there are positive people out there.
"We want to showcase the fun that's involved with being together and being in recovery and being sober together," Desmoulin said in between fits of group laughter Monday afternoon.
"That's what we do. That's what we're all about."
The group highlights their adventures through Wavey's Facebook page. Last week when Henry needed to stop by Wal-Mart to get her phone fixed, they decided to film themselves dancing through the doors, a video that's since gone viral.
Henry, who was moving out of town, had been asking her friends to do something with dancing for the past few months. What started as a video for a few laughs has so far landed them more than 100,000 views so far and messages from people all over the world.
Morrison said the experience has been surreal.
"We know that our laughter has reached others and our friendship has reached a lot of people," she said.
