THUNDER BAY - A 24-year-old woman is in police custody and is facing charges in connection with an armed robbery incident from July.

Casie Ann Eugina Mathewson, 24, of Thunder Bay appeared in Thunder Bay bail court on Thursday morning, Aug. 6, and was officially charged with one count of robbery with a firearm, wearing a face mask to commit an indictable offence and pointing a firearm in connection to a July 21 incident.

Thunder Bay police began their investigation into the incident after they were dispatched to a convenience store on Waterloo Street following reports of an armed robbery.

By the time police arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene.

Officers learned the accused had entered the store with a firearm in a plastic bag and had approached the counter and produced a handgun, pointed it toward the clerk and demanded money.

Police say the suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. Shortly after the incident, members of the Thunder Bay Police service Break and Enter and Robbery unit had released surveillance footage to the public in efforts of locating the suspect.

Police seized a replica handgun believed to be used in the incident.

Mathewson will remain in custody until her next court appearance on Aug. 11.
