THUNDER BAY – Police have arrested a 37-year-old man after a female victim said she was assaulted and held against her will.

Thunder Bay Police, in a release issued on Wednesday, say they were called to the 100 block of May Street South just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday to investigate a report of an injured female. Upon arrival, they were told the victim had been assaulted by a male with a weapon earlier in the day.

Police learned both the victim and the suspect had been together in a nearby apartment, when the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim and wouldn’t let her leave.

The victim was taken to hospital, where she received treatment for her injuries.

Neil Joseph David Thompson was charged with assault with a weapon, forcible confinement and failing to comply with a condition recognizance.

He appeared in court on Tuesday and was remanded into custody, awaiting a future court date.
